11 April 2010 The Lift

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

We live on the seventh floor of our building. We ride the lift a lot. And yet just today I realized that because it is mirrored, I could snap a family picture of the three of us. Sam was busy counting down the floors, but AC obliged me with a suitably gobsmacked look.

10 April 2010 Oh the Wonderful Things

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

We went on a walk today around Stanmer Park. In the US I would call it a hike, but they call them walks here, not sure why. Perhaps because it sounds more civilized, or perhaps because walking trails nearly always end or begin with a tea room or a pub. Very civilized indeed. Our walk […]

9 April 2010 Keep Up, Mum!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

That’s what a man called out to me when he saw me jogging after Sam to keep her in my sights. She goes nearly everywhere on scooter now, which is the mode of transportation for kids her age, who are too big to ride in a buggy or pushchair, and too short to keep up […]

4 April 2010 Easter Egg Hunt at Devil’s Dyke

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Legend has it the Devil dug the Dyke so he could fill it with water and flood the churches of West Sussex. But his noise awoke an old woman who lit a candle. A rooster saw the light and crowed, and the devil, hearing the cock crow, believed it was morning and ran off, leaving […]

2 April 2010 Good Friday

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

It didn’t start out good. I went to the post office to buy stamps for a letter I really needed to mail and it was closed. I was dumbstruck for a minute. But it’s Friday? Good Friday. That’s a “bank holiday” in the UK. Apparently a postal one as well. Then I went to the […]

After touring “The Wizard’s Attic” at the Hove Museum, Sam had lunch with two of her new Brighton pals.
