It was AC’s last day at Linden Lab. It was Sam’s last day at Brighton and Hove Gymnastics. And it was the first snowfall in Sussex! The snow didn’t stick on the coast in Brighton, but Sam and I got to see some snowy fields as we trained to the northeast to Lewes for a […]
Archive for November, 2010
We took a break from purging and packing to go out for hot chocolate on St. James Street.
About this time one year ago we were getting ready to move to the UK. AC’s employer had made us a fabulous offer: go and live in Brighton for a minimum of a year. We’ll send you over, store your stuff in the US, and help you find temporary housing in the UK. When you’re […]
This will be my third ex-pat Thanksgiving but my first time actually cooking the bird abroad. I’m a little nervous. We have a convection oven with a grill element and after nearly 9 months I still don’t have the hang of it. Things are always turning out… crisp. My first ex-pat Thanksgiving was in France […]

At Queen’s Park.
From Rottingdean to Brighton Marina.
Well, just. See that dark blue in the background? That’s the evening sky at 4:35PM. Today AC returned home from a week in Boston wrapping some things up with the soon-to-be-ex-employer. This is what happens when I wake up in the morning, decide I’m sick of my hair, go to a drop-in hairdresser and tell her to “use her creativity.” The straight hair will be gone with the first wash though. But until then, I’ll have to suffer lots more funny looks from the husband and […]
Sam and I have decided that the “Green Man” likes to sleep on the job in central Brighton. He’s rarely seen and when he deigns to make an appearance, it’s a flash, a blink, a wink. You can’t get across the street before it’s “Red Man” rising. So what do Brightonians do? They pretty much […]
Sam and Cerys have quite different interests. When they play together Cerys is usually a superhero while Sam is a princess. (Although, the other day my girl said she was a superhero ballerina, so Cerys is having some influence on her). But both the superhero and the princess share a love of dragons.
