We have a bat in the dining room.

28 October 2013 Shroud

Monday, October 28th, 2013

Quite appropriate for the cemetery garden in fall, no? The shroud, aka floating row cover, is supposed to shield the broccoli and lettuce from the nippy temperatures that have befallen Virginia.

26 October 2013 25th High School Reunion

Saturday, October 26th, 2013

Yes, I braved my 25th high school reunion! And got to see some cool people I haven’t seen in 25 years. My class’s reunion area was on the second floor of the Mansion–what we called the convent where the sisters lived. We also had religion and foreign language classes there. This is one of the […]

24 October 2013 Virginia v. Miami

Thursday, October 24th, 2013

Women’s Soccer. Virginia trounced Miami 4-0 and I have to say, those girls really have some crazy mad soccer skills. The game was so entertaining, it took our minds off the 40-degree temps (!) The hot chocolate helped, too.

23 October 2013 Final Harvest

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

Final harvest of peppers tonight (jalapeƱos, green bell and gypsies) since it’s supposed to get near freezing tonight. And speaking of freezing, guess I’ll be freezing some peppers for the winter!

22 October 2013 Little House in the Little Woods

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013

Sam drew a self-portrait in which her hands and feet were caked in mud and dirt. “This is me when I’m happy,” she said. She spent the afternoon playing with her friends in the woods today. They refurbished a stick hut, painted mud on the walls and rigged a tree bark door. By the looks […]

21 October 2013 Comment tu t’appelles?

Monday, October 21st, 2013

What French club was asking after I changed everyone’s names and gave them chapeaux to wear. (Sam is wearing a beret that I bought at Galeries Lafayette in 1987 on my first trip to Paris.)

20 October 2013 First Pony Ride

Sunday, October 20th, 2013

Guest Photographer: Hannah! (Yes, I’m a lazy photo365er this week). What do you think Sam’s going to ask Santa for this year?

Saturday, October 19th, 2013

They call it cornball. All I know is that my triceps are really sore.

17 October 2013 Long Jump

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

(Guest Photographer: Nathalie!) The Long Jump event at our monthly history club’s exploration of the Ancient Greek Olympics. I was running the discus throw event and Nathalie was kind enough to get this great shot and share it with me.

14 October 2013 Valencia Orange Pepper

Monday, October 14th, 2013

Lo and behold one of our Valencia Orange peppers ripened almost to orange. The cemetery garden did really well by its peppers. The jalapeƱos keep on coming, too.

Sunday, October 13th, 2013

Kitsy, Salmon and Brother came for breakfast.

12 October 2013 Epi-puppy

Saturday, October 12th, 2013

All dressed up to go to the Mini-Maker Fair with her father today. The plushie puppy is actually an “epi-puppy”–an epi-pen carrier that Sam can wear around her waist. Sam loves it and it has made carrying the epi-pen a lot more fun for her. Unfortunately she came home from the fair feverish and ill. […]
